Articles and essays on Buddhist spiritual practice in the Westernised world

On this site

This site publishes and presents essays and other writing by members of the FWBO. Since we have a particular approach, thwriting on or linked to from this site explores the practice of Buddhism from our point of view. There are two lists of material: writing published on this site and an alphabetical list of articles published on other websites.

What’s new

The long overdue makeover finally got under way! OK it’s all a bit grey at the moment, but that’s better than it was!

We’re working towards creating a “virtual buddhist centre”, in which this site is going to feature as part of the “library”. If there’s a link you”d like to see added, please get in touch with Satyadarshin.

In the full library, there’ll also be links to articles by and about other traditions and schools. Sorry to be so parochial at this stage — it’s difficult keeping on top of FWBO material at the moment. In the meantime, please visit the truly stupendous FreeBuddhistAudio.

The broader perspective

Sacred texts

No writing by anyone in the FWBO would replace or substitute for investigating the word of the Buddha as we receive it in the canonical literature. We’d recommend visiting these websites.

The Access to Insight site is a non-affiliated website maintained by John Bullitt providing texts and Information on the practice of Theravada Buddhism. He has many fine articles, texts and translations drawn from that tradition

with thetxs viewable in a number of scripts (written languages).

Other work online

The following websites may contain material that is by an FWBO author, but the site itself is idependant of FWBO editorial participation.

We recommend The Journal of Buddhist Ethics, an online journal dedicated to the scholarly study of Buddhist ethics.
